On behalf of the board of SHF, including my son Deepak Tummala and management committee of American School Panama, welcome you all to be a part of American School Family.

For those who are not aware of us, the foundation was organized and incorporated in 2007 in California , USA for the purpose of stimulating voluntary private support from alumni, parents, friends, corporations, foundations, and others for its initiatives to improve academic standards and social development programs.

Over the past few years American School has evolved into world class school, with a complete new team of young, enthusiastic teachers, directors, who have adapted to the evolving academic system.

Looking at the year 2020 and 2021 till now, I am proud to say that despite all odds, we have ensured that the academic programs offered by us remained unaffected. I am quite satisfied with the adaptation of our teachers and students from offline to online education. Our online initiative has been a success and in 2022 we will continue to reach new levels of excellence in both academic and non-academic areas.

It would be unjust to merely mention about the new session without giving insights into the current academic status. I must say that 2020 has been learning year for many students ,teachers and parents getting accustomed to the online learning environment and its challenges. I would like to quote from Max McKeown “All failure is failure to adapt, all success is successful adaptation.”

American School's 2020 experience in adapting to complete virtual learning environment is highly commendable. I am glad to state that American School teachers, and staffs successfully adapted to the changed circumstances due to COVID19 restrictions. Adaptability enforces creativity, and creativity is adaptability ,this made a big difference in our academic offering .

As evident from the testimonials of parents and students , I am proud to state that we have successfully implemented latest tools/techniques of blended learning & flipped learning approaches with excellent results.

Right from the beginning we took a decision to include all subjects into the online study plan, thus we included Music, Art ,Sports and folklore along with other academic subjects.

In 2022, we are tying up with US based academic experts to add more innovative programs / learning tools & techniques to continue our pursuits towards improvement in English,Science, Mathematics and Informatics.

I do understand that online environment has also put more responsibility on parents and would like to assure you all that our student centric approach has been very helpful and will continue to help those students who were finding it difficult to cope up with the online environment.

American School has always been characterized by providing a high-quality comprehensive education with a rigorous academic curriculum to train competent students with character, leadership skills, and good principles.

Despite the difficulties we are currently going through due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have continued with our full academic curriculum and incorporated a great variety of digital tools to teach our distance learning classes and keep our students motivated during the teaching-learning process, such as: Google Classroom, Zoom, Padlet, Kahoot, Mentimeter, Story Jumper, Genially, among others. It has been a great challenge for all of us, but together (students, parents, faculty and staff) we have overcome it.

As a responsible school committed to the education of our students, we will continue working hard on new digital education tools, strategies, and techniques to improve and enrich the teaching-learning process and thus, keep ensuring a service of excellence for this coming 2022.

Cherene earned her undergraduate degree in liberal studies with a focus on teaching elementary school from San Diego State University.

She then earned her bilingual multiple-subject credential and master's in science education from California State University East Bay. Her teaching includes a range of experiences from a kindergarten class in Mexico to a variety of bilingual classes around the California Bay Area.

She is currently an elementary science teacher in Berkeley Unified School District where she has been teaching for the last 18 years. 

Jeff earned his undergraduate degree with honors in literature from University of California at Santa Cruz.

He then went on to earn a master's in anthropology from San Francisco State University and his single-subject credential in English language arts from California State University East Bay.

He has had a wide variety of different education experiences from teaching International Baccalaureate in Port-au-Prince to running a manga and anime club in an Oakland, California public high school.

He is currently a humanities (English and history) and video production teacher in Berkeley Unified School District for the last 16 years.
